Most people in America will be celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow with family and friends. But the challenge will be if you could go for a walk, run, or exercise for a little while in the morning. That is because at most Thanksgiving meals people eat a lot without noticing. And with working out in the morning, you will already have burned calories so it won’t matter as to how much you take in.
Doing any kind of exercise in the morning would be good. But for those of you that are unable to, for spending time with others, you might need to notice your food intake if you are trying to keep in shape. One way that would make it easier is to eat slower and drink water often. That would prolong your meal, while others around you may eat a lot and won’t be aware of how full they already are.
If your fitness goal is to stay fit or lose weight, you would want to keep this in mind. Tomorrow is a day of enjoying being together and having a feast, but remembering what your goals are is important.
If you want to know I had to watch what I ate on a Thanksgiving. I was on a strict diet not to lose weight, but it was a treatment of epilepsy. I had to weigh my food in grams. That day I could eat only 55 grams of turkey meat, 60 grams of green beans, 45 grams of butter, and then drink 90 grams of heavy whipped cream. Yeah, that’s right. No carbohydrates, only fat used for energy. The amount of fat was to create ketones in my blood which then could have an effect on my nervous system and control my epilepsy. So that was my meal on one Thanksgiving day while everyone else around me ate whatever they wanted. Even dessert, but not me.
I was on that diet for a year. It did have a little effect on my epilepsy, but it didn’t work. I had brain surgery years later, which did work, but I won’t go into that.
The fact is – if I can keep the discipline and choose to eat a limited amount, why can’t you? Try it for your fitness goals.
I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
