I was about to train a client the other day, and I had only 20 minutes before to do exercises before my client came. I knew I had to move fast, so during each of my sets I made it only about 25 seconds rest. Doing that I was able to fit in dumbbell chest flys, dumbbell overhead tricep extensions, leg press machine, and incline dumbbell chest press exercises. Each exercise, I did 3 sets of 11-17 repetitions or until failure. Doing this I went from one exercise to the other, and I was able to finish a lot of the lifting before my client arrived.

Sure I was planning on core exercises after I trained my client, but I accomplished a lot during the time before. But as I trained myself, I glanced around the gym.

Many others in the gym working themselves out were doing it slowly. And I don’t mean slow repetitions, but I mean taking a minute or two between sets. These weren’t beginners either, I’ve seen them for years. They just looking at their cells or watching tv. They weren’t pushing themselves to train hard and effective. If they keep doing that they won’t see any difference in their health or fitness.

Unless you are new to the gym and your body can’t take intense exercises, it is understandable. But if you’ve been in the gym for a while, the next time you’re trying to get a good workout, make it a point not to stand around and watch tv, check out your cell, or talk the latest gossip with someone.

Keep your mind focused on your body. Push yourself hard and make sure you get a good workout. If you don’t, you won’t see and feel results!
