Yesterday I took the day off. I thought of going running in the morning, it was going to be cooler than the day before. I had the goal of going a longer distance, and keeping up the faster speed that I had worked the last time went running. I thought of 9 miles.
It was tough in the beginning, by body felt tired, I had worked out a bit the day before, I had trained clients in two different locations and rode my bike to the different locations and then back home. But I kept on running, I knew it would become easier as I kept going. All I had to do was keep running and don’t stop. I went up to 5 miles and I felt better. I tried to go a new route, but construction was on the street so I had to turn around and find a new way to go, so I did. Before I knew it I was up to 8 miles. I asked myself, “Do I want to stop? Am I getting too tired?” But it was too nice outside to stop. I just kept going.
When I felt it was time to find a route back home, I thought it would be almost 2 miles to go, but it actually took 3 miles. When I got home I lifted the running watch on my wrist. And I had run past 12 miles! And I had kept up the faster pace I had worked on last week.
I hadn’t thought I would do that many miles, but I did. The morning went by fine. I had explored new routes, kept up a faster speed and kept an open mind about when I would stop.
It is like many things that happen to us each day. The same can be applied to for how far we want to go with fitness, family, career, our happiness, etc. It’s all about what we choose to do.
